Five Step Skin Care

Hi everybody! Today we are talking about SKIN CARE! Not make-up, because I know very little about that….but I am just a little obsessive about caring for my skin. I have been in about a year long journey or trying to find the perfect products for my face, and I think I’ve finally accepted that the perfect products might just not exist. BUT! I think the perfect routine does exist, and at least for this season, I think I’ve found the perfect one for me (plus some pretty close to perfect products to boot). This routine is only for night time, but maybe we can cover daytime skin care soon.  Let’s jump in!

Step 1: Cleanse

Picture
The very first step in my 5-part routine is cleansing. I do a double cleanse. A double cleanse means starting with a traditional wash-off cleanser and following up with an oil based cleanser. I love to start with a gentle cleanser like a Cetaphil and finish with the BLUE bottle (not those trash pink or green versions) of Garnier’s Micellar Water to gently remove last traces of make-up and other junk.

Step 2: Tone

Picture
Next, we tone. I’m absolutely not talking about Sea Breeze or any other highly astringent and overly drying nonsense, but a gentle toner that naturally brings some calm and balance to your skin. I’m completely obsessed with everything (including the price) about Thayer’s Witch Hazel Toner.

Step 3: Serums

Picture
Ok the next step is the trickiest to find your perfect product match. In this serum step you basically apply to your skin whatever it needs, to work on its problem areas. This time of year, my problem area is dullness, so to build brightness I love this Vitamin C serum. My serum is produced by The Ordinary, which is a high end skin care line that is SUPER reasonably priced. If brightness is not your issue, apply a toner here to help with fine lines, hyper pigmentation, or whatever else needs some extra love. To do a little digging about what serum, or mix of serums might be right for your skin, check out The Ordinary’s website.

4. Moisturize

Picture
The fatal flaw in this step is using a moisturizer that clogs your pores or otherwise throws off your skin. I will swear by this rosehip oil by Teddy Organics until my dying breath because it is all natural, feels like a dream, and never never never clogs your pores or feels sticky, gloopy, or extra. You will love this product, promise.

5. Eye Cream

I will be a focused warrior against under eye puffiness and fine lines probably forever. Eye cream is CRITICAL. This is the one step that I will never ever miss no matter what. The skin under your eyes is very delicate, so apply this with soft taps with your ring finger and head off to bed knowing you’re about to wake up with fresh and nurtured skin.

I hope this guide helps. For me, it’s all about early intervention, with high quality and affordable products to make your very own skin as gorgeous as it can be.

Fresh Starts Week 4

Welcome back to our FINAL week dedicated to fresh starts in 2019. Today we are covering next steps. Often, the new year is a fresh opportunity to reevaluate the things we have not been doing and set some intentions. The stereotypes here look like diet plans and gym memberships and whatnot, but I would encourage you to let your fresh starts reflect the ways your very own life needs to experience growth. Sometimes the thing that can get the next big hurdle to shift is just doing the next right thing.

For example, if you want to start grad school this year but it just seems too daunting, do the next right thing of narrowing your selection pool down to five universities based on your budget or specific programming needs. If you want to completely declutter your house, zero in on the spot that is really getting under your skin and make a goal to completely organize that space by the end of February. If you want to make your relationship with your mom right, do the next right thing of committing to sending a Monday morning text with some encouragement and a prayer for her week. Just doing the next right thing can be the change maker. We are never too busy, old, young, or frustration prone for good change to happen.
