1. "It Doesn't Pay to be an Early Childhood Teacher" Lately, I've had the privilege of spending eight hours a day with the astoundingly talented teachers of the Program for Young Children (teaching ages 3-5) at Columbus School for Girls. The work they do is as exhausting as it is rewarding, so the information in this article is disappointing to say the least. Definitely an important read for any elementary teacher. Click the button below to check it out. 2. Me Before You It seems like everyone is speed reading this book before they go to see the movie and that is exactly what I did. Let me tell you, this book and the author's specific voice are worth the hype. It's the perfect quick read summer book without being too frivolous and chick lit. I'm seeing the movie this week and I cannot wait! 3. Lilly Presents! There is nothing like a Lilly sale at summer, and nothing that motivates me to purchase like FREE PRESENTS WITH YOUR ORDER. In other big Lilly news their much loved print, You Gotta Regatta, is finally back and I'm thinking the towel just might need to come with me on my honeymoon (more on that later). Click the button to start shopping! 4. Postable
Sharing a resource that has been an absolute lifesaver in wedding planning. Being a bride-to-be is full of mailing letters, invitations, save the dates, and thank you notes. Thankfully, as I was compiling addresses for my save the dates, I got organized with Postable. The sites allows you to create an online address book for free, and later, to electronically mail cards via the site. Having everyone's information in one place has made my wedding life infinitely easier and I have been sending all my miscellaneous cards (birthdays, get wells, etc.) through the site in the mean time! You type the message electronically, choose the card they will print it on, the person from your address book to send it to, and they take care of the rest. No stamp buying or envelope licking required. I'm obsessed. Click below to visit!

It will probably surprise no one that I am OBSESSED with blogs. I have always loved feeling connected to someone else's creativity and specialized knowledge on the thing(s) they are passionate about, and a blog is the perfect avenue to communicate that. Below are some of my favorite blogs in each of the topics I'm super interested in. Just click the button below each catagory to check them out! 2. Fashion: The Teacher Diva Also no contest. The clothes can be kind of stupid expensive, but I love that Ashley is a former teacher, and I also love how clearly she links up each and every article of clothing she wears. Her style is the perfect mix of trendy and classic and I'm crazy about it. I also recommend following her on Instagram where you can see her daily outfits. 3. Books: Modern Mrs. Darcy Honesty time. The title of the blog is kind of stupid....BUT this woman reads books so incredibly fast I can't even understand how it's possible. Her book recommendations are gold because she has read it all. Specifically, her summer reading guide is incredible. She spends a whole year creating it, and I always end up loving the books she chooses. Trust me on this one. 4. Jesus: She Reads Truth I'll be writing a post next week about the Proverbs study my mom, sister, and I are doing that was compiled by this organization. The blog is a resource every Christian woman should be connected to because there is a well written, gorgeously packaged, highly insightful, and completely free devotion posted every single day. It's perfect for reading on your phone if you just didn't have time to sit down for your quiet time and it's also the perfect kind of material to start a women's bible study! (More on that later) 5. Mrs. Miracle's Music Room I know, I'm hugely biased. Mrs. Aileen Miracle was my cooperating teacher and one of the most brilliant, kind, and musically intuitive people I have ever known. Being mentored by her was one of the biggest blessings of my life. But guys, she is also famous! This blog is universally loved by elementary music teachers everywhere because she is one of the very first people to ever create online supportive resources for our specific kind of teaching. If you teach music, you can't afford not to follow this blog. Honorable Mention:
Design Darling, The Every Girl, A Cup of Jo, and Cupcakes and Cashmere To see my (kind of extensive) list of favorite blogs, visit my Feedly account. On weekends I'm writing about all the things I'm currently crazy about. Check it out! 1. Podcasts! I know right of the bat that this sounds super boring and only cool five years ago. But I'm telling you, on your long drives or really boring cleaning sprees, find that podcast app that Apple has preloaded on your iPhone and subscribe to some podcasts. My very favorites are Serial (just like basically everybody else), NPR's This American Life, and the TED Radio Hour. You'll thank me for this I promise. 2. Shirt Dresses So the thing about a really well constructed shirt dress is that you literally cannot go wrong. It's perfect for brunch with friends, a job interview, or a date night. Gingham, chambray, or seersucker are my personal favorites. I wore this one at my four year anniversary date with Ben this week! P.S. We had dinner at Lindey's in the German Village and it is by far our new favorite. 3. Ice Cream of the States Check out this article about all the most incredible ice cream shops in all fifty states. Summer road trip material for sure. Click the button below to hop right to it! 4. The Skimm
Ok this is actually something I've been unable to start my day without for the better part of a year. Basically, two very smart young women spend all day wading through the overwhelming number of news stories that you are too busy to care about, and they put only the most important ones into a newsletter. The newsletter is as informative as it is fun to read, and shows up in your inbox first thing every morning to make you feel like the most informed person in the room all day. It's free and easy to subscribe. Just click this button! I have had the most incredible time celebrating my small town over the last few days. I am so excited to move to Columbus in a little more than a month (yikes), but it's making my last month living in Ross County a little bitter sweet. I've been spending a ton of time in the growing downtown of Chillicothe, OH and have developed a whole new appreciation for small business owners and why it is SO important to support them. First (and most importantly) shopping small creates and supports local jobs. In fact, nearly two thirds of all new jobs are created by small businesses. Secondly, it aids the national economy. Small businesses are responsible for over half the GDP, so there's really nothing small about it. In Chillicothe specifically I DEFINITELY have a few recommendations, and I will be making even more next month as I start getting to know Grove City a little better. This week on National Donut Day I made a special trip across town to pick up Crispie Creme donuts. I consider myself an expert on donuts, and I have tried them from more stores than I could ever count, so believe me when I tell you that these are the best.
I've also been totally obsessed with Schegal's coffee house on Paint Street since I was in junior high. I have had so many of my most memorable life chats sitting on their couches drinking a Milky Way mocha. When I go in, I ask for "my regular," and they know just what I mean. Fire and Stone pizza and Grinder's grilled cheese are insanely good for lunch, and lately I've been loving Totem, an incredibly tasteful gift shop full of locally made home goods, apparel, jewelry, etc. Today my family and I competed in the Chillicothe Challenge. We ran around the downtown completing challenges (like this crazy foam pit) and earning points with other Chillicothe families. Getting to plug into such a fun and community minded event in one of the biggest perks of living in a small town. What are your favorite small business finds? Comment and give me some recommendations! |
